Color Interaction and Simultaneous Contrast

We began by using Color Aid colored paper to create a study of simultaneous contrast by finding two colors that can be made to look like they are the same when surrounded by a contrasting color. I mixed these colors with acrylic paint to the best of my ability to use on my final composition.

I constructed a diptych and painted an asymmetrical design that would create isolation of hues to achieve the same color effects as in the Color Aid study.

Once the diptych was completed, I used several different colored lamps to show the effects of different light on color. Some were more dramatic than others (green and orange), but it became very clear how our perception of color can be altered by both color isolation on the surrounding ground, and also the color of the light illuminating it.

Design for Excellence Award: Fall 2014

Thank you so much to my professor, Josh Weiss, for nominating me for this award. As a freshman in my first term, it feels so great to be recognized this early in the game. Thank you for all the opportunities you've given me to show my talents, for all of those very constructive critiques that helped set me in the right direction, and for inspiring me to always strive for improvement.

Although I only placed second (no complaints here!), I think that's definitely worth all of the sleepless nights that got me there.

Introductory Drawing

In progress still, but possibly my favorite

First time using liquid medium to draw (India ink and water) but I think it went rather well!
